House Rule : Grudge

House Rule: Grudge

In the harsh depths of Sector Nivarra, defeat is rarely forgotten. When a gang is beaten in battle, the memory festers, breeding resentment and a thirst for vengeance. To reflect this in campaign play, we introduce the Grudge mechanic.

Earning a Grudge

If a gang loses a battle to another gang (i.e., is the loser by scenario conditions), it gains a Grudge against the victorious gang. This Grudge persists until the grudge is settled, meaning they defeat that opponent in a future battle.

A gang can hold multiple grudges against different opponents, but may only have one Grudge per opponent at a time.

Benefits of a Grudge

When facing a gang they hold a Grudge against, the following rules apply:

Grudge Fury: The gang receives -1 to all Bottle test rolls, making them more determined to stay in the fight.

Cold Resolve: All fighters in the grudge-holding gang gain +1 to all Cool checks for the duration of the battle.

Shrug It Off: The first time each fighter suffers a Flesh Wound in the battle, they may make a Cool check:

If passed, the Flesh Wound is ignored and not applied.

This may only be attempted once per fighter per battle.

Record it as “used” once the test is attempted, regardless of result.

Clearing a Grudge

Once a gang defeats an opponent they have a Grudge against, the Grudge is cleared. The score is settled… for now.
